Continuing education for chiropractors

Continuing education (CE) is vital for chiropractors to maintain licensure and stay updated with the latest advancements in their field. These educational activities ensure that practitioners provide the best care to their patients and adhere to the highest professional standards. Dr. Shawn Thistle can help you obtain your CE hours and fulfill your requirements with evidence-based online learning options! This page will detail the continuing education requirements for chiropractors, including general guidelines, specific requirements in different provinces, states or countries, and recommendations for choosing courses or programs.

Why Continuing Education is Important

Continuing education helps chiropractors:

  • Stay abreast of new research, clinical guidelines, techniques and technologies.
  • Enhance their clinical skills and thought processes.
  • Improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain licensure and avoid disciplinary actions.
  • Network with peers and professionals in related fields.

Dr. Thistle’s Tips for Choosing the Right CE Courses

When selecting CE courses, chiropractors should consider:

  • Accreditation: Ensure the course is approved by the relevant regulatory  board or chiropractic association (if required in your region).
  • Relevance: Choose courses that enhance skills relevant to your practice or clinical interest areas.
  • Topics: These can range from conditions-specific (like disc issues) to general concepts and methods (like patient communication, physical examination, clinical decision-making etc.).
  • Format: Decide between online or in-person based on your learning style,  schedule and preference.
  • Credibility: Look for courses from trusted associations, companies or individuals (like Dr. Thistle) who effectively integrate scientific evidence with best practices and clinical advice to enhance your patient care and help your practice thrive.
